Good idea? Bad idea? Who has one? What does it mean. Or do you believe in the "Name curse" (If you get someones name tattooed on you the relationship will fail)

For the record I always thought they were a bad idea... and now I have one. #YOLO

One of my best friends (who also happens to be a CC employee, haha) and I have matching tattoos.
We both have the dark mark from Harry Potter tattooed on the underside of our left forearms in white ink (because, according to JK Rowling, after Voldemort dies the black marks all fade into scars #nerdalert).
I've had it for over a year now and I love it a lot. <333

my old roommate and I have matching yin yang tattoos but since I moved away we haven't spoken much. I seriously doubt I'd get a matching tattoo with someone I'm dating but that's just me

My best friend and I also have matching yin yang tattoos. Not an original idea at all, but we've been friends for years and I think that getting something like that tattooed represents a point in your life, so your tattoos kinda tell a story. She and I are obviously still friends, but even if we weren't, I don't think I'd regret it.

I'm getting a little baby pink heart on my bottom pinky knuckle in the next few weeks here. Matching with my best friend of the last 8 years to mark her battle with an eating disorder, extremely low self esteem and family violence. All that she is slowly but surely starting to recover from. I'm so proud of her. This tattoo is essentially a pinky promise to me and to herself that she is doing her best to keep herself out of those situations and is keeping her head up to better herself. Little lady means the world to me.

I feel like matching tattoos are okay if they have meaning and you've known the person for ages. But regardless, it marks a certain time in your life when you were close with that person. You're always going to remember them so why not mark it with a SMALL-ISH tattoo. Please do not get a whole back piece for someone you've been with for a month. -.-

I want to get a matching tattoo with my boyfriend soon.
But when we started dating I randomly started singing "My sunshine, my only sunshine..." and it stuck.
Now whenever we get angry at each other, or were upset about something in life, we sing it. Like last year when my grandma died, he hugged me after I found out and he sung really quiet, "My sunshine, my only sunshine. You make me happy, when skies are grey..." needless to say I bawled harder lol

My boyfriend and I have been together for over a year now... We probs known each other just about two years now. But I want to wait a bit longer before we go to the chair together, Im scared of the curse :S

So for our matching tattoos I want to get a little tribal Sun. Something small, and in a place not noticeable. So its our little secret :3 (haven't decided if I want it black/grey scale or coloured yet)

100% believe in the name curse. I think small things are cool, for friends.
Not a big fan of relationship tattoos, only because I definitely think it's a jinx.

One of my great friends and I went to coachella this year. She is one of those friends that no matter how much time apart you will have sooooo much fun with and it feels like yesterday you saw them last. She brings out the best in me. We decided we wanted to get matching tattoos to celebrate our wonderful adventure in Cali. So... around the festival wanders a GIANT snail. Its an art piece made out of a excavader. google it, this beast is amazing!! Anyways that was our meeting point if we ever got lost so we both got little matching snails on our ankles.

The to commemorate a happy event I could do the tattoo for if I knew the person really well. But the only person I can think of that I would get a matching tattoo with is my mom.

I want to see this giant snail in person, I really do. lol!

I personally wouldn't want matching tattoo's with anyone sept family. and maybe a small one with my best friend (been best friends since we were 3)
If i ever have kids though and they're into tattoo's i'd get something matching with them aswell.

I am all for matching tattoos! Relationship tattoos kind of push it, but my boyfriend and I have talked about getting one, and weather or not we are together forever, I still consider him my best friend and the tattoo we might get will always be looked upon as a super happy time in our lives.

My mom sister, and I all plan on getting matching dream catchers on our backs, with feathers and stones that resemble each one of us.

I have lyrics on my arm that two of my friends and I got together - one got hers on her shoulders and the other got hers on the inside of her upper arm. The tattoos weren't anything "friendship" related, and were strictly for the mutual love we all shared for the band. Needless to say, myself and one friend (who is my closest friend, whom I have no doubts will always be a part of my life) stopped talking to the other friend and she went and got the tattoo removed, and covered up!

I also have a tree on my right thumb that matches a tree on the left thumb of my best friend. When you put them together they are supposed to resemble the album artwork for "To Plant A Seed" by We Came As Romans, that album basically resembles our friendship.

I want to get a 1-2 cm sized heart. Just a basic heart doesn't even have to be the same colour for all I care we could each get one in our favorite colour. Just one tiny little one. And we can get it wherever we want it as long as we both get a little heart I'll be happy.

I seriously want a darkmark tattoo so flipping bad.

Courtney you and I will get a grumpy cat tattoo. Nuff said.

I have several matching tattoos.

One with my ex-roommate, but that was only because we both wanted the same design that our tattoo artist had created. (It was my Mario tattoo)
One with two of my best friends. Its a friday the 13th tattoo which a lot of people have anyways, so it doesn't really bug me.
And then I have one with my sister. Even if we grow apart or fight, she is still my sister, so it won't upset me regardless.

I wouldn't get a couple tattoo though, but that is mainly due to the fact that I don't have a lot of faith in relationships.

I really think getting tattoos for a person is the worst thing a person can do unless the person you get it for is dead.
My best friend killed himself when I was 14. 4 years later I got a star to remember him.
It's really a source of support for me.

Anything for a live person? No way.
If you ask me, people are not to be trusted.
No way am I getting a tattoo with a guy who could possibly sleep with my best friend (who, hypothetically I also have a matching tattoo with). What a hypothetical jerk!

My ex got a tattoo for me, then we broke up. Now he's got a memory of me EVERY WHERE he goes, ALL THE TIME.
Sucks to be him, and sucks to suck.

I happen to have a tattoo as a reminder of something my mom said who is still living. It has lot of meaning for me and for her. I'd rather my mom see my tattoo for her before she's no longer here so she can see that I love her so much that I will permanently mark myself to remind me of the lessons she taught me. There is nothing wrong with getting a tattoo for someone who is living. I know lots of people who got tattoos for their kids, like their little bitty footprints and stuff. Nothing wrong with that.

Relationship tattoos in general I don't think are the smartest idea when its like boyfriend and girlfriend kind of stuff.

My mom and I are officially talking about getting the tattoo's
"you are my sunshine my only sunshine, you make me happy when sky's are gray"
"you'll never know dear how much I love you, so please don't take my sunshine away"

She use to sing that to me a lot as a kid. And even now when ever she's down i sing it to her.
I also wanted a single tattoo that incorporates both my moms and my dads tattoo's
my mom has a rose, and the kanji for strength. And my dad has a ribbon with my moms name in it, a wizard, and a small dragon.
I was thinking maybe a rose with a ribbon around it but that seems so cliche.

I have a kind of matching tattoo with one of my best friends. We both got Totoro (from My Neighbour Totoro) but hers has an umbrella. Mine has the leaf on his head and the small white totoro as well as the rat lights from the catbus.

My sister and I have a few matching tattoos.
But I feel matching family tattoos are different than friends or partners with them.

Who knows! Personally I'd never get a matching tattoo with anyone but family these days.

Ages ago, my ex boyfriend got a Pac-Man ghost on his arm and I got Pac-Man (Stick n' poke). Mine's now been covered up, lol.

I have 13 as well ^^ but my birthday is the 13th so it makes sense.

I have recently gotten a huge tattoo craving. not like I want something small either. I have a go big or go home craving and I am so saving up for it right now.

When my husband and I met, we already had "matching" tattoos by coincidence. In the same spot, lol. He has a crescent moon on his right shoulder blade and I have stars. He is going to get a star added and I'm getting a crescent moon added. They aren't exactly the same but very similar. I think matching tats can be great if done right. He also wants the same alien I have on my wrist, which would be awesome. My best friend is also considering getting the same one. What I dislike are name tats, if they're not your family or pets, it's probably a better idea to get matching tats instead of names.

As mentioned above, I have matching thumb tattoos with my best friend and we are actually planning on getting a few more matching tattoos. We want to get "F*ck Yeah" somewhere on our bodies, we are thinking on the underside of our boobs because not too many people will see them. We also just decided we are both going to get "My home is in your heart" somewhere. All of this needs to get done before the end of the summer because she is moving away on me. :(

Me too. My parents are and so is my mom's parents. My grandpa has been twice. I'd never get my boyfriend's name because I think that's tacky. Hint, I said boyfriend hinting I never want to get married. Unless it's THE right person. I just find marriage unnessesary in general haha

i like to plan and throw parties, so if i meet the right person, getting married mostly for that.

i have one tattoo for my best friend from high school. first tattoo when i was 16 and she drew it for me. everyone said "you aent going to be friends forever, you'll loose contact as soon as you get out" well sometimes people are wrong. 6 years we've known each other? we havent gone to the same high school in about 3 years, and we're still going strong :)

My best friend and I have been together for ten years, but she just moved to Edmonton in May. She is planning on setting us up an appointment with a tattoo artist there so that we can go get a matching tattoo together. We technically have matching 13s already but we want to get something more meaningful. I'm pretty stoked on it.

I would never get someone else's name tattooed on me i dont think, unless it was like a family member or something, because if you get a partners name on you if you two break up you will forever have their name on you, unless you go get it zapped off, but thats no fun at all.

i totally did that. highly intoxicated at my house, friend see's tattoo needles and asks if she can tattoo me. i say "ok tattoo the word bacon right there" since i have a leg devoted to crappy tattoo's. so i watch her do the letter B to start and it looks alright. so i start playing some COD with a friend and a few rounds later i look back and she's just finishing up her name "becka" instead. luckily she sucked at it and the ink didnt stay.

I guess yeah, but its still a really strange idea. But, i guess also on the bright side, you have a couple cool stories to go along with them!

Thats a kind of interesting idea, good way to work around it all. just make sure nobody does anything REALLY dumb on it.

aswell as the 6661 which is the logo for the first guitar player i ever really looked up to, the 13 that everyone has, the sale boat that is so horrible that i paid a 6 pack of beer for in regina, and the deathbat i stick n poked into my foot.

my left calf/lower leg is what i call my party ankle. aka, that's where all of my stupid or impulse tattoos are going. currently comprised of my 'death before decaf' and soon, my cat's portrait i think.

At one of my old jobs, this guy came in, stapled himself with my stapler then showed me the rather large carrot tattoo he had on his ribs .
He later asked me to coffee.
I said no .

bottom half of my left leg. knee to ankle is my graffiti leg. its one of the best ideas ive ever heard of. because if your going to get lots of small basement tattoo's like me, might as well have them all in one place. go Michaela.

I just got my THIRD matching tattoo with my best friend! We both got "My home is in your heart" on our feet and are both beyond excited about it! Also, the tattoo artist we went to was hands down the best artist I have been to, personality wise (his work is really good too). If you find yourselves in Fernie B.C., check out Poison Apple Tattoo!!

Relationship tattoos can be a great option for the love birds. These are types of tattoos that are drawn on the body, just like any other tattoo. The only difference with these tattoos is that they tend to be incomplete. They will either be incomplete, or they will be a single character, which is obviously male or female. The other partner will have the other half or the other character of the tattoo, so they will only be complete when the two are close together.

I have 2 matching tattoos, both with my only sibling. The first one we got the same design but on different body parts and different sizes. And the next one we got was matching hearts on our butt cheeks. And I am trying to get my mom to get matching imagery with my future chest piece, but a tiny part of it for her first tattoo.
I know that I think of past friends for some of my tattoos, not because they match at all, but because I got tattooed with them. I think that can be just as great, since we made memories together but haven't marked our bodies to match another person either. I definitely want to get tattooed at the same time as my husband some time soon. And we have a couple tattoo in mind but are waiting until our 10th wedding anniversary first, even though I've known him for over 10 years already.

So currently the only tattoos I have (for now) are matching with a long time friend of mine. They are stick n pokes :(, a peace sign on my left hand and a heart on my right hand. We did the hearts together and the peace signs on our own time, both symbols are on one hand for her though. I was barely 14 when I did it and its definitely something I have regretted, the peace sign is getting removed, it's soooo uuugly!I don't think I would have a problem with it if they were not on my hands/ both hands. The heart is very special to me, because we did it as a "sisterly bond" kind of thing and since then so much has changed, my friend fell into addiction and nearly lost her life, she moved to another country to get help and no matter how long we went without speaking we always had that simple heart connecting us. She has had hers redone professionally already and in a few months I am going to be seeing her for the first time in nearly two years and get my heart redone, quite obviously I am very excited and overly emotional about this!!!! thx for reading my story

I've thought about getting a matching tattoo with my younger brother. We've been through hell and back together, but too bad he's only 16 right now. If you guys have ever played Majoras Mask.. I want to get the two fairies Tatl & Tael. (They are brother and sister. Tatl being the oldest sister and Tael being the little brother.)

I know it isn't the best idea, but I would love to see if I could get my back-tree done and have bf get a leaf on his shoulder to match :3 Just something small, then he could pass it off as no a couple tattoo if we ever don't work out.

Do you have a photo of yours? In my experience matching tattoos are usually a spur of the moment impulse type decision done for fun. Some of the best are when they mean something though. Here's an article with some pretty good example that aren't as cliche as others. There's one with a string in there that is reallyyyyyy cool. tattooblend.com/34-matching-couple-tattoos-lovers-will-appreciate/
