Fake Nails

I have always had this weird aversion to the fake french gel nails that everyone and their dog gets.
Lately however I was thinking about getting maybe almond or oval shaped ones just to mix it up and have a little fun.
Thoughts? Opinions?
ALSO does anyone know what it's like to work here with them? (like picking up beads and nose screws and stuff)

My sister's an esthetician to every once in a while I let her spruce up my nails because I always keep them short for art. They aren't too bad to work with, depending on the length, but they take awhile to get used to. I find picking up beads to be a nightmare and when you have to size a BCR? Forget it haha

I have wanted the oval ones too but then I imagine trying to pick up a bead

i constantly have my nails done
i love my acrylics
and i always get them done long

they're currently just a boring french tip, but i usually have designs and colors and the whole shebang

i've learned how to manage just fine here with them,
even putting together teensy horseshoes with teeeeeeensy beads

^^ she cray tho.
Chloe and I have both tried it, and we were both breaking off/chewing off/destroying our nails by the end of our shift. I've found as long as your thumb and index finger nails are slightly shorter than the rest, everything is okay.

Mine are almost a centimetre past my fingertips AND stilleto nails.
I work just fine. might take you a few seconds longer to put something together but you get used to it pretty quickly.

Is those the pointy ones? I want them tooooo! I can't have nails, though. Especially the pointy ones, as they would be constantly breaking through the fingertips of my gloves. :P

I currently have gel polish just on my nails and omg does it stay on wonderfully! And you can still use your nails normally and everything. It's awesome!

I have definitely met piercers with long nails, who are good, so clearly it is possible. And for tattoo artists, too, Shaughnessy. I just don't really get how they do it. Oh well. Little boy nails forever for me, too. :(

I WANT THE GEL POLISH!! I've never had fake nails and I don't really want to because of the up keep. The gel polish on the other hand would be great, specially because we can't have chipped nail polish and I really like either black/white/blue french tips! Or just plain black. What is the up keep on them does anyone know?

@Thereysa
The upkeep isn't that bad, honestly! Chipping doesn't happen to me much, if at all, and some places (if the chipping happens within a few days of application, will fix it for free). Depending on how fast your nails grow, you can go anywhere from about 2-4 weeks I think, before you need a fill? At least I'm pretty sure that's what it was! I currently have black gel polish on, and I LOVE it <3

I have been getting gel nails for a few weeks now and I adore them.
They are so pretty and I don't have to worry about the polish chipping and they're always so smooth <3

But, how much does it cost and the upkeep (filling) each time, and how worth it is it? Honestly?

So at the place I went my girl did a bang up job and I have to say, they look so lovely.
First time (a full set) was 60$ and the fills (upkeep) are 40$ and most people go every two weeks but I'm sure you could stretch that out.
I love having pretty nails and being worry free about chips and having that half chewed nail polish look be a thing of the past it makes it really worth it for me. Plus when you get glitter polish you don't have to struggle to get it off.
If you add me on IG (APPROXIMATESUNLIGHT) there are pictures of mine c:

Does it look bad when it's growing out, like is it noticeable that you need to fill it? Plus that would be $40 every lets say 3 weeks... :/ I really want them its really just the $ that I am thinking that is not worth it. I really want to do it for December though for my birthday and Christmas. How much is it to take it off? And the color wont chip off correct?

If you get full colour it's noticeable but if you just get the tips done it's not overly noticeable at all. Even when I've seen full colour ones it doesn't look bad when it's growing out by any means.
The price really depends on where you go too! Just remember sometimes when price dips so does quality.
There are a soak off kind and a file off kind I believe, try and find a place that does soak off ones because you can just take them off at home c:
I haven't gotten them taken off yet so I don't know what it would cost to do that. When I had the gel nail polish I just peeled it off which is a no no :p

So if I was to get one, what do I ask them? The gel fake nails? Or is it just a polish? Is it really thick or only like a couple layers, sort of like nail polish?

The gel nail polish or shellac or whatever is just like regular nail polish. If you want length then ask for a full set of gel nails, it's a few coats of a thicker polish c:

Haha then all you ask for is shellac nail polish or the gel nail polish, that's normally wayyy cheaper!

I asked Santa for a UV light & gel polishes for Xmas :) My mom and I got shellac done together and mine lasted a super long time. I'd just prefer to do it myself, cuts costs by a lot. I don't mind painting my nails or taking awhile to do them, I'd just rather they not chip after a day. Gel polish is where it's at.

So the gel do it yourself nail polish works then? I may just get one of those, I heard from one store it's $50? How long does it last honestly?

I haven't tried the do it yourself stuff yet, but my gel nail polish that I got done at a salon lasted me about two weeks with no chipping until I decided to take it off.

i love mine!! i can keep the polish on for about a week... other girls can keep it 2 or 3 weeks!! i think i might just be hard on my nails!!

getting the polish off after isn't always the easiest either!! you have to soak your hands in remover for 10mins!! i usually just pick it off and then i make a mess of my nails!

but other than that i love it!!

I am a nail technician, personally i love them. i rock the lime green gel nails. They make me feel pretty and so I got my diploma so i could do my own and for friends/family. I also seen my co-worker jenna do a trick with the pliers to put together the bcr's that works awesome when you are rocking the fake nails or put together a bunch of extra bcr's when you have the nails off lol!

Hello. I am a newbie in nails industry. After 23 years, I've retired from old job, and I am looking forward to start working as a manicurist. This is my hobby since I was young. Can you recommend me which are the best products? What gel polish, nail lamp, scissors etc. should I use? I've found many reviews here www.nailproducts.reviews/ regarding the best nail products. Are these really the best products? Please advise. Thank you!

@zoeycarter

As a nail technician id really recommend to check out the Light Elegance brand-
you can get your nail education with them and also buy their products through many
professional nail supply retailers worldwide.

Also there are many helpful videos on Youtube,
"nail career education" has tons of useful information in her videos.

pierced nails are one of my favorite designs to do - you can get the tool at most nail art shops.

Good luck!
