sooo I want my cheeks done
but I went to talk to a piercer yesterday and he said he wouldn't do them
he says he only does them if the person has legit dimples, and they are deep
now, I've heard and know of friends of friends who have had them done without having dimples
is this safe?
I'm guessing the scarring would be pretty bad as well

It might be that your cheek tissue is very thick and healing would be trickier for you, but really there is no issue with piercing non-dimpled cheeks! Scarring on cheeks usually is quite profound, but you do wind up developing dimples, so they are somewhat hidden.

Go to a different piercer and get their opinion. It could be that the first piercer wasn't comfortable doing it, it is a more advanced piercing. :D

Victoria who works in GP with me has her dimples pierced and she had no dimples before. The healing was pretty lengthy but that's normal for dimples. So if you really want them just go to someone else and go for it!! I think they would be supper cute

I got my cheeks done a year and a half ago, I didn't have dimples. But they still aren't fully healed. My piercer said he would look for a "sweet spot". I have reaaally chubby cheeks haha, and it wasn't painful at all really. The swelling remained for a couple of weeks and then started going back to normal. The care is kind of difficult, but I absolutely adore mine and think it is worth the trouble. I have a couple of friends who had their cheeks pierced as well, and took them out because they got sick of taking care of them. But their scars aren't bad, you barely even notice because of the dimples left there now. If you don't think you will mind the scars or the constant care, go for it! I am sure you will love them.

I think it would suit you so well. I know when Victoria got hers done she said the only bad part really was trying to eat but she did not have dimples before and they look fantastic.

Kayla dimples would totally suit you! I think you should definitely get a second opinion if you're willing to deal with the long term care involved with the piercing.

Haha, just 'cause I'm so schnazzy and smart I'm gonna throw the correct terminology at you - the piercing you just got was a philtrum! I have no idea where all this Medusa business came from, but the proper name is the anatomical one.

(I called it a Medusa at the course I took in San Francisco and one of my instructors rolled his eyes and said "That's not a Medusa honey, that's a f*cking Philtrum" And that is how I remember)

To be fair though pretty much every piercing has some common nickname. Like spierbites? Pretty sure they are just double labrets, then of course there is the monroe/maddonna or angel bites? I feel like no one would know what I was talking about if I said I wanted to get my Philtrum done haha.

what the heck are angel bites?

sorry pepper, i'm HERE.

yes cheek piercings!
they are a pain but very much worth it if you can put up with the awfully long healing process!!
i have my philtrum done too, i love it with my cheeks!

i only had one natural dimple to begin with and my piercer had to basically just make a new one!
as far as scarring goes, it basically looks the same as any facial piercing hole, but inside a dent, so you can barely notice the hole.
most people DO get dimples from it. i now have two. :)

Angel bites are my enemy in all nicknamed piercings haha. They are just having a monroe on both sides simular to the snake bite idea I guess? I just have never seen it look good.

and I LOVE philtrum/medusa with cheeks. Our Victoria has it and I am quite a fan.

Almost as bad as "panda kisses" and "dragon bites"! WTF!?!?! Jeesh, why does everything have to have a cutesy name?!?!?! Proper terminology makes everything sound smarter and less irritating.

Lol, supposedly 'panda kisses' are double lip piercings on one side, and 'dragon bites' are both nostrils. Silly, silly!

i featured panda kisses as a piercing of the month, but i was clear to state that it is just a nickname for two side-lip piercings right beside each-other ;)

but yeah angel bites? it sounds stupid. why would an angel bite somebody?

Recommendation for cheeks: I downsized mine to a 16g so I could put tiny clear beads on them in hopes of finally finding some sort of 'retianer' that would work... it didn't. The thinner barbell must have cut/agitated the inside of my piercing, esp on my right cheek, cuz boy did it not feel good! Didn't swell though, thank god, 'cuz they are bad for that. also, 16g bars that we carry don't go long enough for my left cheek!! :( 14g seems to be best, and I had them pierced at 12g yeeeaaars ago, that was peachy as well. I just wish there were retainers I wouldn't have to worry about falling out!

maybe the tongue retainers that we sell would work?

I was thinking medi-flex would be great because you can custom fit them

With the tongue retainers I would worry about the o-rings poooooossibly falling off. With all the talking and moving of your mouth and eating, etc etc, your cheeks seem to flex so much that I worry it may push the orings off if they are too short. But if they are too long, employers will notice them!
(I am going to be going in to the environmental field and most likely starting out in office work, and unfortunately there are STILL quite a few consulting firms that are very picky when it comes to piercings. Even if I were out and active in the field and not in the office! It wouldn't matter so much once I am established, but once I do my internship I have to take what I can get. Hopefully that all will change!)

Mediflex wouldn't work either unfortunately because the gauge is too large for any beads to be well hidden. I have 14g bars in and those are fine, but the clear beads, clear half beads, clear or flesh tone ANYTHING is too large that it REALLY stands out. I thought it would be okay too but you really notice it once it's on your face :(.

Yeah, the clear beads totally show up.

I had bioflex for a long time, I didn't have any problems with it, but I just swtiched to s/s and the only thing I like better is easily being able to thread the beads on.

Mine are 14G and it works out just fine for me! I could totally see 16G sucking.

you need to get some PTFE labret posts that you can cut to length and wear them backwards. the disk on the back of the labret is pretty small in diameter on the ones that i have, and it's flat, clear, and plastic! so a lot easier to hide.
mine are 14g too, and it works pretty well! i'll try to take a photo for you

Hey genius. You don't worry about the o-ring coming off at all? I guess I could just always carry around 30 spares in my purse! ^.^
That would be great if you could!

Kayla, very happy uo got your dimmples done it would probably be the first piercing I would recomend for your face as you have very nice cheek bones! i kinda have the same face shape wen I smile. I got my real dimples pierced...only one shop were I lived would do them, I got them done with the medi flex type stuff so i could cut them shorter wen the swelling was done. For scaring it is the coolest piercing to get because the longer you keep them in the better wen you take them out you will have for real dimmples. They suck for healing though, was told its about a year to fully heal. my left one got an infection at the managers retreat to and it sucked so bad!. but now its all better again :P I have 16g s/s 12 mm labret posts in mine with small s/s beads.

as for angle bites there is one girl in my city that has them, and she also has snake bites and it looks killer on her anyways.

Shaugnessy, how long have you had your cheeks pierced for?
In November it will be 2 years for me, and they still aren't healed. :(
I clean the outside with rock sea salt and distilled water, and a leeetle bit of polysporin if they get dry. And the inside with dilluted listerine.
